LEAF CONTROL

Autumn is a very busy time in garden, the change in season, with the onset of winter,  means all deciduous plants, shrubs and trees will die back and or shed their leaf cover.  Whilst this is beneficial as this matter decays and the nutrients go back into improving the soil, this process is fine in an uncultivated environment this is not the case where you are trying to maintain order.  This is especially true for lawns.  Leaf litter initially acts as a barrier to light.  Grass like all plants needs light to photosynthesise - the process where light is absorbed by the chloroplasts and is converted into energy, through respiration and the building blocks for growth.

The wind will blow the leaves into clumps and eventually you will have large areas that are blighted by dead grass patches.  These patches in turn will be perfect seeding grounds for common lawn weed and moss.

So the upshot is, do not ignore leaves, make sure you have a regular routine to removed these and. ideally, use them for compost.  It's one of the more mundane and tough jobs to do so if it's not for you then get in touch in September and get booked in.  We suggest a minimum of 4 to 6 visits
