Pruning Roses, get more flowers

Writer's picture: Ben SowtonBen Sowton

It's been such a fantastic couple of weeks, a real blast of summer. All of this lovely heat has kept the garden in full bloom. We have a wide variety of roses, from dwarf to climbers, deep colours to soft pinks and whites. The whole garden is still ablaze with colour and with judicious pruning we are getting more and more buds forming. You can be quite brutal with roses. I have cut some of the climbers back vigorously after the first flush of flowers and now have a really good a mount of new growth from the base which will provide much better coverage of the wall than this year. I hope they continue to flower right into the Autumn, giving such huge pleasure
